IT LOOKS like an ordinary drain but it was obviously highly interesting to this group pictured several decades ago.

The photograph, from the Ilkley Gazette archives, is undated - but judging by the clothes and hairstyles it appears to have been taken in the 1970s.

Of the four people peering intently at the ground one is clutching a notebook and pen and could possibly be a reporter. Meanwhile a woman and girl in the background are looking on in amusement.

Nearly 20 years ago flash floods in Burley-in-Wharfedale caused misery for residents and left inches of water in homes. This Land Rover was pictured making its way through the floodwater in 1996.
