AWARD-winning folk duo Gilmore and Roberts will be gracing the stage of Otley Courthouse this November as part of their nationwide tour.

Twice nominated at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts cover a broader and more contemporary genre-spectrum than might be expected from a duo wielding guitar, fiddle and mandolin, and their fourth and most recent album, Conflict Tourism, is no exception.

Supporting this remarkable duo is Gary Stewart, a Scottish singer/songwriter who has carved out a strong fan-base in his adopted home of Leeds, as well as around the UK. Captivating audiences with the sheer energy of his live shows, he delivers his songs with honesty, passion and a good measure of Celtic Flair.

Friday, November 6 at 8pm. Tickets: £12/£10 in advance, £13/£11 on the door

From November 2 – 14, the Courthouse will also be holding its annual Science Festival. As part of this, on Monday, November 9, the writer, performer and self-professed ‘all round science bloke’ Marty Jopson, best known as the resident science expert on BBC 1’s The One Show, will be performing a demonstration of Advanced Bubblology. Come along and find out what’s really going on in the slippery, soapy world of bubbles: there will be flaming bubbles, smoky bubbles, exploding bubbles, square bubbles and gargantuan monster bubbles - all in the name of science.

The fun begins at 7:30pm, Tickets: £10/£8 (suitable for age 7+)

On Wednesday, November 11, science and musical theatre will explosively combine in the form of The Element in the Room: A Radioactive Musical Comedy about the Death and Life of Marie Curie. Brought to you by Tangram Theatre’s John Hinton and Daniel Goldman, this irreverent yet ultimately informative musical-comedy-road-movie premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, where it picked up the ThreeWeeks Editor’s Choice Award, as well as a host of enthusiastic reviews. Featuring incredible scientific breakthroughs, very silly songs and an audience-participation radioactive decay chain, this is an exuberant celebration of the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, whose work continues to affect our lives today.

At the Courthouse, 7:30pm, Tickets: £10/£12 (suitable for ages 7+)

The final event of the Festival is a real cracker: join award-winning comedian Helen Keen and explosive science communicator Ian Simmons from Newcastle's Centre for Life as they demonstrate The Science of Game of Thrones, shedding light (and hopefully not blood) on the (sometimes quite literally) burning questions that lie behind George R. Martin’s bestselling series. If you have ever wondered whether you too could one day command fire-breathing dragons, what really happens when royal families get a little too friendly, or if it actually is possible to crush a person’s skull with your bare hands, come along (in costume if you like!) for a night of Ice, Fire and yet more Fire and, please, don’t try any of this at home!

The Game begins at 7:30pm on Saturday, November 14. Tickets: £10/£8 (suitable for ages 14+)
