Children in Otley have been getting into the sporting spirit of the 2012 Olympiad – by forming human Olympic rings.

Pupils and staff at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, whose classes dressed in five different colours for the event, linked up to make the famous symbol last Friday.

The children also ran relay races and carried replica Olympic torches, for an energetic end to the week.

Year 1 teacher Steph Davis said: “This has been our first week into the Olympics topic, which the whole school is studying.

“Forming the Olympic rings was really good fun and was our entry point into the topic. We got each class to wear different-coloured T-shirts and then formed them up into the rings.

“We’ve also had the children doing a torch relay around the school, with each class taking turns, and they’ve really enjoyed it.”
