It’s a fun day for children as new Yeadon Westfield nursery opens

Children got messy to mark the opening of their new nursery building.

Youngsters at Yeadon Westfield celebrated as only youngsters know how – with gloopy glue, and foam, and lots of other gooey things.

Getting their hands dirty was all part of the fun when the purpose-built extension attached to the infants school was officially opened.

The ceremony was performed by the Lord Mayor of Leeds Coun Judith Elliott, who also launched the nursery’s open day. Head-teacher Anne Parker said “Everyone enjoyed it – it was a very successful day. It was a ‘messy’ day and the children had lots of really messy activities.”

The £150,000 extension will now free up the former nursery building for use by the community.

Mrs Parker said: “Our nursery used to be in an old separate building and now it is completely incorporated into the school.

“The new extension has allowed us to open up the old building for the community.”

It is envisaged that the old building could be used for groups such as mums and tots or for organisations such as Jobcentre Plus.

Anyone interested is invited to an open day on October 21, from 1.30 to 4.30pm.
