AN army of scarecrows invaded Pool-in-Wharfedale to the delight of villagers young and old.
No fewer than 101 scarecrows were carried to Pool C of E Primary School recently for a display that impressed everyone who saw it.
Created by pupils and their families, the scarecrows came in all shapes and sizes and some even ended up getting a permanent home in gardens after the exhibition.
Head teacher Roger Bumby said: "It was just unbelievable to have so many scarecrows turning up.
"There were families walking up with them from all directions for a solid hour.
"We had some fantastic designs and it was a lovely, sunny day. The kids really enjoyed it and it was a chance for the new parents to meet everyone.
"The idea was to involve families in the school as much as possible and it was also part of our harvest festival celebrations.
"The day before we'd taken 109 gifts out around the village from the festival.
"A lot of parents have asked if we can make the scarecrow exhibition an annual event and I know some families put theirs out in their garden afterwards," said Mr Bumby.
