MARJORIE Inman is looking forward to getting to grips with her role as Gran Parker in Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society's forthcoming production of the wartime musical When The Lights Go On Again'.
The vetreran Yeadon actress plays the cantankerous Gran in a production which will enlighten today's generation about family life in the time of the Second World War.
It runs from the start of the war to the victory celebrations in 1945 and inbetween the songs and jokes there are glimpses of the vast sadness felt at that time.
Letters from those separated by war and the worries of those whose loved ones were missing will bring a tear to the eye.
Before long though it will be back to the laughter and singing and the audience will be invited to join in with favourite wartime songs.
The musical comedy really sums up what life was really like in those dark wartime years.
People just had to grit their teeth and get on with it. They drew strength from each other and the community spirit and patriotism of that time shine through very strongly in this production.
The experienced cast includes Val Pennett, Shirley Broadbent, Pat Simpson, Terry Ford, Allan Johnson, Sarah Nicholson, Mark Hancock and youngsters such as Frances Encell and Ian Clarke from the local Tranmere Park School in Guiseley.
The show runs at Guiseley Theatre from November 5-10 and tickets at £7.50 and £10 can be obtained by telephoning 08453 705045.
Collections will be taken at all performances for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.
