Burley looking for home grown talent

After finishing last season as Burmah Oil Champions, most points from first and second teams, Burley Cricket Club look forward to the start of the coming season with much optimism.

Playing strength at the club remains largely the same as last year with only a change in the overseas player to mention. Jason Wright from Tasmania replaces Joel Wylie.

The club is proud to be involved in the Chance to Shine initiative which alongside Ben Rhydding CC aims to take cricket into eight local schools and provide fully qualified coaching to all schools. Very few clubs are involved in this programme throughout the country.

Burley CC are pleased to have secured David Cooper as club coach and it is hoped that this appointment will provide home grown cricketers for years to come as well as provide a quality and sustainable coaching structure.

Senior and U-17 outdoor training will commence on Tuesday, April 1, at 6pm and newcomers would be most welcome.

Three pre-season friendlies have been organised: Saturday, April 12 versus Barwick in Elmet and two games on Sunday, April 13, both away at Ben Rhydding and Menston.

Junior training from ages U-9s to U-15s begins with a registration on April 7, followed by nets from April 14.

The club has undergone further improvement works during the winter months as the Committee strive to provide the best facilities in the area.

Huge thanks are extended to all members, sponsors and patrons for their effort.

The club is relying heavily on its car boot sales for added income and these will be held on the following dates:April 20, May 25, June 8, July 6, August 17 and August 31.
