Volunteer sports officials needed
England Athletics-Yorkshire and Humberside is on the look out for more volunteer officials from this area to help bring new blood' into the sport.
With the spring/summer track and field season starting on March 30 it is the ideal time to join up and get into the athletics action.
For those who have dreamt about firing the starting gun at the Olympic Games this can become a reality as officials who start their training this year have the potential to be an official at London 2012.
England Athletics-Yorkshire and Humberside, the organisation responsible for improving the performance of local athletes and increasing the capacity, is aiming to bring in 300 new officials across the region in 2008.
Marie Dixon, interim regional manager at England Athletics - Yorkshire and Humberside, said: "Our volunteer athletics officials are vital to the sport. Without them there would be no competitions and no verification of athletes' records and achievements.
It is crucial that more newcomers from the Wharfedale area are recruited and trained so that we don't have a shortage of officials in the run up to the 2012 Olympics and beyond."
England Athletics-Yorkshire and Humberside will partner each new official with their local athletics club and provide guidance on training.
Subsidies will be provided through funding from supporters CE Electric UK - the region's electricity distributor, the National Sports Foundation and Sportsmatch.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming an athletics official, contact Fiona Harrison at England Athletics - Yorkshire and Humberside on 0114 242 3831 or adminyork@englandathletics.org
