IT HAS come to the time of year where the nights are getting longer and the weather is getting colder.

Winter is definitely making its presence known, signalling the end of a busy year at the Bronte Parsonage Museum. Looking out from the windows inside the Parsonage, the clock face on the church is now visible as the leaves have finally dropped from the trees.

The festive season has well and truly arrived in Haworth. Christmas decorations line the Main Street and the Parsonage Museum, giving the village a wonderful, magical and Christmassy feel.

The local traditional Scroggling the Holly parade took place during the last weekend of November. The Morris Men from Oakworth took part in the parade and carol singing could be heard from all around. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without carol singing!

Before the New Year is upon us there is still plenty going on both here at the Parsonage and in Haworth. The Christmas festivities planned for last weekend including invite people to take part in wreath-making workshops at the Parsonage, with mulled wine and mince pies to help people get into the festive spirit.

On the agenda were also two carol services, with children from Haworth Primary School singing on the lawn of the Parsonage followed by a traditional service at the church.

We have a weekend of events planned for the next few days.

Tomorrow there will be wonderful opportunity to see the Parsonage in candlelight, just as the Brontes would have known it, as Collections Manager Ann Dinsdale leads our candlelit tour. The tour starts at 7pm and will see the Parsonage decked with its traditional Victorian Christmas decorations.

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions on what Christmas at the Parsonage would have been like for the Brontes, and a chance to enjoy some mulled wine and mince pies.

Places are limited for this event and tickets, which cost £15 each, must be booked in advance at bronte.org.uk/whats-on .

Over Saturday and Sunday there will be a weekend of festive activities for visitors. There will be walks and talks, readings of Christmassy passages from classic literature in different rooms of the Parsonage, and a drop-in craft activity to create your own baubles for your Christmas tree.

These events will be free with admission to the museum and will vary across the weekend so please call for more details if there is something you specifically wish to take part in.

The museum will be open throughout December apart from the period of December 24 to.27 The closed period will be from January 5 to January 31. This allows time to change over the displays, undertake essential maintenance of the museum and clean and inspect all of the objects to make it the best it can be for visitors returning in February.

It will be a very busy and productive time for us!

With many events planned and Charlotte’s bicentenary to prepare for in 2016, next year will hopefully be a great New Year for us here at the Parsonage.
