A RUGBY league player has been banned from getting behind the wheel after he admitted drink-driving.

Fenton Rogers, 20, of Wrigley Street, Oldham, was charged with drink-driving after an incident on Platting Road, Saddleworth, at 12.30am on March 29, which was Good Friday.

Rogers, who played for Huddersfield Giants, was suspended by the club after the incident.

At the start of April, Bradford Bulls said it was "delighted" to announce that Rogers had re-joined the club on loan from Huddersfield Giants.

Rogers appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Court records showed he provided a breath sample of 66 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

He was disqualified from driving for 17 months, with a 17-week reduction upon satisfactory completion of a course by April 19, 2025.

He was also issued a fine of £576.

His guilty plea was taken into account when his sentence was imposed.

In a statement issued on March 29, Huddersfield Giants said: "The club were made aware on Friday morning by Fenton Rogers of an incident the previous day which led to him being detained for questioning by the police.

"The club has suspended him with immediate effect pending the outcome of their own investigation.

"No further comment will be made at this stage."

Less than a week later, on April 4, Bradford Bulls said he had re-joined the club on loan from Huddersfield Giants.

In a statement, Bradford Bulls head coach Eamon O'Carroll said: "It's a huge boost.

"He is a player we have monitored and looked to get back for some time.

"Luckily for him he could play Super League so he will be a really welcome addition.

"Everyone speaks highly of Fenton.

"He comes back in a better place on the back of that experience here last year.

"He's had a full-time pre-season with Huddersfield so I am sure he will be a huge addition.

"Another reason we wanted to bring in someone the quality of Fenton is he will add to us physically with his experience of being in a full-time environment.

"He is here to get his head down, concentrate on his rugby and kick on.

"He is familiar with club and group and knows what it means to play for Bradford and I look forward to working with him."

The Telegraph & Argus asked Bradford Bulls if it wanted to comment following Rogers' conviction, but no comment has yet been received.
